I recently had the opportunity to join ORMS and Fujifilm on a Cape Town photo walk, hosted by the talented Andile Bhala. I always love events like these, where you get to experiment with new gear, connect with passionate photographers in the city, and learn from top talents in the industry. We had a wonderful photo walk through the city and The Company's Garden. I've always loved the honesty of street and documentary photography. I don't get to explore these genres of photography often enough, but events like these are a great opportunity to safely explore, experiment, and play. Unfortunately due to the huge turnout, I was unable to acquire a little Fujifilm camera for the walk, so I shot these on my Canon R6 and a few on my film camera as well. I'm excited to share the film scans as soon as I get them developed! At the very end of our walk, I got to meet Ande Mafenuka who is an incredible stylist. We did a small impromptu portrait session- I absolutely love his style and hopefully, we'll be working together in the future again.
I've always been drawn to the power of black & white when it comes to storytelling. The monotone simplicity helps to still the mind so that you can really feel the moment and notice scenes that can be missed on your everyday commute. It helps you to see the same environment in a new light from a new perspective.
Feel free to share your thoughts! I hope you enjoy taking this journey with me on the Cape Town photo walk and hopefully there will be many more photo adventures to share in the future!
I finally got my film developed and here are three photos I snapped on my film camera during the photo walk! The colour ant texture gives a completely different vibe in comparison to my digital black and white photos. You can view more of my film photos here.
