I've always had a deep love for film photography ever since the first time I developed my own film in a darkroom back in 2009. I've used my film camera on and off to snap moments throughout my life while threatening myself to shoot more. But film is special, and I don't want to waste a shot, I want to do it right, resulting in me taking up to 12 months to shoot a 36 film roll. Which is really ridiculous, to be honest! These are private photos I take for myself, and the majority of the time I actually love the bloopers and errors. There's a realness to film photos that makes it all more precious even when the photos are out of focus, blurred, or the person's eyes are closed the moment I press the shutter.
That all being said, I got excited when I found the Analogue Cape Town group that goes on a film photo walk once a month. Even though I haven't been fortunate enough to join them on a photo walk just yet, it did inspire me to do as I've been saying to myself for years - to shoot more film! So much so that when ORMS organised a photo walk I took my film camera with to snap a few impromptu moments. You can read more about it in my blog post here.
The following film photos that I'm so excited to share with you include moments I've captured in New Zealand, Kenya, Nambia, and Cape Town! A proper highlight reel of many adventures. I'm looking forward to shooting more film and sharing my results with you here. I hope you'll enjoy the results just as much as I do, maybe there'll be a photo that grabs your attention, makes you stop dead in your tracks, brings a smile to your face, or a calmness to your heart.
The following photos were taken with a Canon camera on Fujicolor C200 film.
