If you're from South Africa, or somewhere across the borders, on the other side of the ocean, I'm pretty sure you've heard about the Bo-Kaap.
Bo-Kaap is a neighbourhood in Cape Town, widely known for its bright colourful houses. It's a top tourist attraction where you can not only take fun photos, but learn more about the Cape Malay history, culture, and food, as the area is steeped in the rich and complex history of Cape Town, South Africa. According to SA History Online "The choice of colour is said to be attributed to the fact that while on lease, all the Houses had to be white! When this rule was eventually lifted, and the slaves were allowed to buy the Properties, all the Houses were painted bright colours by their owners as an expression of their freedom! "
The Bo-Kaap is easily in Nadine Aucamp Photography's top 5 photo destinations and I've had the privilege to photograph many happy moments of local and international travelers here. I'm thrilled to share with you the happy memories I've recently captured of the Fourie family. Upon Erica's initial inquiry, she stated how much she loved bright colours and opted to dress the whole family in multiple bright colours. The kids were buzzing with energy and I'm thankful we had the space for them to run free and to fully be their silly little selves.
What are your thoughts on the shoot? Do you have the Bo-Kaap on your holiday bucket list?
